Engine11, formed in early 2000, is comprised of five members with contrasting influences, styles, and previous musical experience. Brought together more by the common desire to write interesting music than by common musical perspectives, engine11 has and continues to explore various shades of rock music.
Songwriting and lyrical work are shared by each of the band's members, which allows the individual styles to uniquely intertwine within songs. The group's initial recording, "Where's the Damn Beacon?" [2001], demonstrates the wide musical scope: elements of alt-rock, pop, classic rock, funk, blues, and even touches of hip-hop and techno are present on the album.
Residents of the Minneapolis scene, members play in venues such as:
[Minneapolis] - 7th St. Entry, The Library, 4th Street Station, Terminal Bar, Lone Tree Annex
[Duluth] - Norshor Threatre, The Brewhouse, Amazing Grace Cafe, Le Petite, RT's, College of St. Scholastica, UMD, Bayfront Park
[Northfield] - Carleton College
